THE family is a sacred institution where children are coached from young by parents. Parents need to see to their offspring's basic and emotional needs, constantly monitoring and guiding them, and to instil good values.
If parents can't do a good job of this, the children would in turn not be able to pass on these values to their own offspring.
The consequences can be seen in the young of today.
In schools, we see children who refuse to obey orders and who are rude, careless, can't be bothered and bored. These traits have been instilled in them from birth as parents are too busy at work to pay attention to their needs.
Consequently, all kinds of behavioural patterns are in place before they even enter primary school, making it more difficult for educators to correct them.
When teachers observe negative characteristics in children and call up the parents, some don't even have the time to meet up with the teachers to understand the problems.
Some who turn up make negative comments. Unless parents are cooperative, the staff at schools can't do much.
Children learn best when parents are good role models. If parents indulge in them, they will gradually allow them to become spoilt brats. As a result, the kids grow up rude, defiant and are impossible by all standards.
